What if architectural renders aren't just pictures of future buildings, but machines designed to hijack imagination? This workshop explores how hyper-realistic digital renderings and CGI shape our understanding of the future before it even exists. Rather than treating architectural renders as simple pictures of planned buildings, this research looks at them as complex, multi-layered objects that actively produce power, attract global capital, and build political consensus.

Majazz Project is a Palestinian-led record label and research platform. Over several years, Mo’min Swaitat amassed an archive of rare tapes and vinyl from Palestine and beyond, spanning field recordings of Bedouin weddings to revolutionary tracks and synth-heavy 80s funk and jazz.

The workshop examines machinations fostering and reshaping global power dynamics, embodied militarisation, AI, warfare, and resistance.
WikiLeaks transformed journalism by changing how public information is created and accessed. This symposium explores its legacy, why its work mattered, and how society and politics shifted as its global releases exposed systems of power. WikiLeaks members, journalists, lawyers, experts, artists, activists, and major whistleblowers discuss war, surveillance, secrecy, and new paths for action and resistance.

Anna Krenz, artist and activist within the Polish queer feminist collective Dziewuchy Berlin, explores how artistic practices can serve as tools of dissent against right-wing populism and authoritarian tendencies. Through examples of protests, artworks, performances and public actions like “Global Scream!” and “Instant Theatre”, she will present how artistic strategies can challenge dominant narratives, reclaim public space, and create spaces of solidarity.
Investigative journalist Sonja Peteranderl and journalist and activist Matthias Monroy provide insight into ongoing predictive policing experiments and trace the history of facial recognition systems in Germany.
When technology serves power, communities push back
The conference Technoviolence: Confronting Systematic Injustice, analyses the production of evidence of systematic injustice. This includes human rights abuses in war conflicts and border regimes, as well as in extractive industries, cyber-surveillance, and political oppression in urban contexts. The conference creates knowledge through situated experience and empower communities to imagine forms of resistance. It combines artistic practices and activist tactics with investigations and the strategic use of online tools to expose human rights abuses and produce evidence of invisible crimes that urgently require public discussion.
Exploring the roots of far-right politics and challenging its influence through art, activism, and tech
Conflicts are escalating both locally in Berlin and across Europe, with the rise of right-wing extremism and far-right ideologies. On a global scale, since Trump's second term, ultra-conservative social visions are being implemented, immigration policies are being enforced, and national sovereignty and borders are being defended. This context requires a scientific analysis that goes beyond polarisation and the instrumentalisation of conflicts for political purposes, often targeting the most vulnerable sectors of society. In analysing such a complex issue, we propose to use artistic strategies as visual evidence to inform about the reality in which we live and to promote a constructive dialogue between different actors in our field of art and culture.
This event will focus on understanding how an illiberal democracy has successfully existed in the middle of the EU for the last fifteen years and how propaganda is an important tool within it.
Investigating The Kill Cloud , on the 10th anniversary of the Disruption Network Lab, brings together the research fellows of the Disruption Network Institute and international experts investigating the impact of artificial intelligence on new technologies of war, automated weapons and networked warfare.
The talk and the workshop aim to familiarize the participants with the nature, use of X-rays technology and images in visual arts and as evidence of war crimes through forensic investigations and prosecutions. With: Jana Lozanoska: visiting Assistant Professor of Human Rights and International Law and Program Head, Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences.
This talk and Q&A will discuss the way artificial intelligence is concretely changing the way conflicts are managed, and human rights violations are recorded. Are technologies destined to become tools of destruction and surveillance for those already in power? Are other paths possible?
HACKING ALIENATION: Migrant Power, Art & Tech explores how art and technology can enhance the political agency of those who lack citizenship rights and experience systemic alienation due to war, political conflict or other sources of oppression.
Screening followed by a discussion with the director Sonia Kennebeck, Tatiana Bazzichelli - Disruption Network Lab, Daniel Lücking - Journalist, editor and former editor of the German Armed Forces.
This talk and workshop will ask participants to reimagine and reinvent common AI and deepfake content with focus on gender inclusivity and queer creativity.
On the night of July 8, which would have been the day before Julian Assange's appeal against extradition from the UK to the US we will celebrate the freedom of Julian Assange and connect the fight for freedom of information through the work of Assange and WikiLeaks with the fight for climate justice.
The right to analogue is not a rejection of technology, but a call for autonomy. It is another tool in the toolbox of digital rights activists, alongside decentralised software alternatives. If the right to analogue is formally recognised, companies and institutions would be obliged to provide diverse options, and this in turn could help loosen the grip that tech monopolies have on individuals, governments and society.
Tatiana Bazzichelli and Joana Moll join the INDEX2024 conference to discuss the concept of art as evidence and the impact of whistleblowing on art and culture, from the first WikiLeaks projects to the Edward Snowden revelations.
